“He’s got a certain level of self-confidence,” Glenn said of Fields. “He can throw the deep ball really well. He’s obviously got power, not only in college, but in the NFL. I think he’s ready to be a top-tier quarterback.”
‘So he’s going to do everything he can to be one of the best quarterbacks, and we’re going to train hard to make sure he does well there.’
As for Jets general manager Darren Mukey, he also confirmed the Jets’ view of Fields as their number one quarterback. “We believe Justin is the real deal,”
‘We believe in Justin. We believe we can win with Justin, so we’re excited about Justin.’
During his one season with the Steelers, Fields showed he could win with his toughness both on the throw and in the lineup, going 4-2 while Russell Wilson was out with a calf injury.
Fields completed a career-high 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. He rushed 62 times for 289 yards and five scores.
Glenn also talked about how Fields will be used, saying, “I imagine him playing quarterback, whatever it is. That’s how we’re going to use him.”
The Jets head coach also said of 30-year-old wide receiver Josh Reynolds, who agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal, that he is “first and foremost a leader.”
‘He’s obviously been there, he’s familiar with what we want to do on the offensive line. One thing people don’t know is he’s a really good blocker, which opens up a lot of things for your offensive line. Usually when your wide receivers block, big plays happen.’ ( cup1688 )
