Benford, a former sixth-round pick in the 2022 draft, signed a four-year, $76 million contract with the Bills late last month, a move the 24-year-old cornerback admits was a life-changing moment for him.
“It’s probably just another thing I’ve put in my bag,” Benford said. “But my drive is still strong to be the best player in the league. It hasn’t changed anything. I don’t feel any different. My attitude is still the same: Go to the Super Bowl, be the best player in the league.”
Benford surprised everyone by taking over the starting job from Kyar Elam after the 24-year-old settled into Sean McDermott’s system, before the Bills traded the former first-round draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, and Benford was rewarded with a new deal.
‘Times like this, like all special jobs, working harder than everybody else. It feels like you’re working harder than everybody else in this building, working harder than everybody else in this country, and then trying to do more than everybody else. It’s like you’re different from yourself, like your old self. It’s like you’re breaking your old self and adding something to your new self.’
‘That’s a hard thing to do, and when you see something like that, it means a lot because it means, ‘Okay, all this work I’ve done has meant something.’ It’s not in vain. Because sometimes that’s what you feel, like you feel like I’m doing this for something. ‘ ( cup1688 )
