‘ESPN’ reports that the 39-year-old player opted to join the Spurs just hours after being released by the Golden State Warriors before guaranteeing a $30 million contract for next season.  ( wilson88 )

San Antonio has gone 22-60 in the past two seasons and hasn’t made the playoffs since 2019.

The 19-year-old veteran has played just one season with the Warriors after being acquired from the Washington Wizards in July 2023, averaging a career-low 9.2 points in 18 games as a starter and 40 as a reserve. 

And there are 6.8 assists, the lowest in the last 4 years as well. 

The Warriors were actually interested in trading Paul to the LA Clippers for Paul George, but their negotiating partners weren’t interested and instead opted to hit the free agent market, eventually settling with the Philadelphia 76ers. 

In addition, releasing Paul leaves the Warriors with $ 147 million in salary cap space for next season, below the $171.3 million luxury tax penalty for the first time in years.
