Herbert is the top candidate the Giants are eyeing in the draft to succeed 37-year-old quarterback Eli, but the Giants’ job could be made more difficult after the Oregon quarterback announced he would stay with the team and not enter the 2019 draft.
The 6-foot-6 quarterback threw for 2,985 yards and 28 touchdowns, with eight interceptions, in 12 games as a junior with Oregon, who went 8-4 this season.
The Giants previously held the No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft, which allowed them to select Sam Darnold, who was then drafted by the New York Jets as the Giants decided to go with running back Saquon Barkley.
