marinabays Everton manager David Moyes has hit out at referee overturning his side’s penalty decision late in their 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United.
The game at Goodison Park almost ended 2-2 before Andre Onana’s shot was parried late on to Ashley Young, who ran towards the ball and was brought down by Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt. marinabays
Referee Andy Madley initially called for a penalty before the VAR room argued to look at the monitor, and after a detailed review, the referee reversed his decision and did not award the penalty.
The Premier League Match Centre account on X later clarified the penalty, with VAR ruling that Maguire did not foul Ashley Young despite the incident, but there was no mention of De Ligt.
“I saw the whole thing, Maguire was clearly pulling his shirt,” Moyes told TNT Sports.
“After that, you have to make your own decision. I think the decision on the field was the right decision.
“I was quite surprised that he was asked to go to VAR because I think it’s very difficult to change your mind, but when you go to VAR, it’s like the people watching the screen have a better understanding. It didn’t go our way today. I won’t complain anymore but it didn’t go our way today.” ( marinabays )
