Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is confident Alexander Sørloth and Julian Alvarez will find their feet again after the club’s new strikers began to face increasing criticism, Mundo Deportivo reported on Wednesday.

Atletico Madrid signed Sorloth from Villarreal and Alvarez from Manchester City to bolster their attack over the summer, with the latter costing a staggering €75m plus €20m in add-ons, but the Argentine has only scored once in seven appearances in all competitions and has been criticised. ‘We are focused on creating better goal situations. I have no doubt that with time and with the relationship that needs to be built, which is not perfect yet, they will play better. It is our job to make them feel better and their job is to convey to us the relationship that happens in football,’ Simeone said of Sørloth and Alvarez.

The Argentine coach was also asked about the system he has used with the team’s attacking line-up, which has seen them rotate four or five players this season. 

Simeone replied: ‘We change a lot. We always try to find something that we believe will fit better. Some games are not like others. Sometimes things change in between and fortunately we have a group of players who can adapt to these changes very well. ‘

‘It happened in the game against Leipzig, it happened in the game against Rayo and we have to improve ourselves by changing the system.’
