Barcelona captain and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has confirmed on Instagram that he and his wife Daniela have decided to separate after seven years of marriage and two children, Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday.

Ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Borussia Mönchengladbach at the age of 21 in 2014, and Daniela moved to live with him in the Catalan capital in the popular Gracia area, where they were often seen shopping and cycling together.

They married in 2017 and welcomed their first son, Ben, in 2019, before their second son, Tom, was born a year later. Ter Stegen took to Instagram to clarify that he and his wife had decided to separate and asked for privacy while they adjusted to their new life changes.

‘Hello everyone, After careful consideration, Dani and I have decided to part ways. This decision is not an easy one to make, as you can imagine, but we both believe it is the best move for us.’
