Despite Salah’s success in the Premier League, which has seen him win numerous trophies with the Reds, O’Hara, who now works in the media like many former players, has noted that the African star is, like Kane, often absent from finals.
“I feel like Mo Salah is like Harry Kane, he’s a top player, there’s no doubt about that, but if you look at the level of Liverpool’s ‘heroes’ like Steven Gerrard and Ian Rush, you have to perform in finals,” O’Hara said on March 18.
“Yes, Liverpool have won many trophies, but they rely more on the form of the team than on individual players.”
“Personally, in finals he didn’t perform at all, which is different to the standards we see in the Premier League. He was invisible in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, in eight finals against Liverpool and Egypt, I think he scored one goal, one assist and it was a penalty against Spurs. He was invisible in big games,” O’Hara said of the 2019 Champions League final, when Salah converted a second-minute penalty to give Liverpool a 2-0 win, with Divock Origi netting the final goal in the 87th minute.
