Maddison suffered a knee injury in last week’s 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur and scans have shown the injury is serious enough to keep the 28-year-old sidelined for an extended period.
It was a big blow for Spurs, who are still without captain Son Heung-min due to a foot problem, but Postecoglou was able to call on 14-goal scorer Solanke for the team’s biggest game of the season.
“Madders injured his knee in the first game so he will be out for the rest of the season,” Postecoglou said.
“Yes, it’s disappointing for him because he was a big part of our second half of the season, especially in Europe.”
“He will miss the game, but that’s normal for us this season. The other players from the first game have arrived and are ready to play.”
Solanke missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at West Ham but has returned to training.
“Dom is doing well and is ready to play,” Postecoglou added. “He has trained with the team.”
