bgames666 Caleb Williams says Chicago Bears players were unhappy with Matt Eberflus’ handling of Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary throw in loss to Washington Commanders
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams admitted the team couldn’t get enough of the way former head coach Matt Eberflus handled the game after losing to the Washington Commanders last season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. bgames666
The Bears looked to improve to 5-2 before disaster struck Washington, with Chicago up 15-12 and Jayden Daniels needed a miracle to turn things around with six seconds left. Daniels threw a 13-yard pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin, putting the Commanders in Hail Mary territory.
Daniels then made the final play, throwing a Hail Mary to wide receiver Noah Brown, who caught the ball in the end zone despite cornerback Tyreek Stevenson’s attempt to block it, leading to the Bears losing the game 15-18 and the next nine.
“The way (Eberflus) handled it at the time, in that game, I think it was one of the things that people in the locker room talked about and were annoyed about,” Williams said.
Eberflus faced a lot of questions after the loss: Why did the Bears let McClaurin catch the ball so easily? Why did the team give Daniels time to score a touchdown on the final play? What happened to Stevenson? But the Bears head coach defended the play by saying the play had been rehearsed 100 times, and Stevenson later apologized.
Bears players had plenty to be annoyed about throughout the season, including a failed Thanksgiving Day finish when the Bears were down by three points and the team couldn’t make a play before time expired, which some players like Jaylon Johnson were so angry that he told Eberflus to listen to it in the locker room, leading to Chicago firing the head coach afterward.
