The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to release Gardner Minshew after just one season with the Pirates, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. bgames666
The Raiders signed Minshew to a two-year, $25 million deal last offseason, with $15 million guaranteed and another $3.16 million guaranteed in 2025. Releasing the 28-year-old quarterback would save $6.34 million and have $7.66 million in dead money.
The changes come under a new management team led by minority owner Tom Brady, general manager John Spitek, head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, with the Pirates previously making an approach for Matthew Stafford before the 36-year-old quarterback decided to stay with the Los Angeles Rams.
Minshew started the Raiders’ starting lineup at the beginning of the season but was benched after five games, making way for Aidan O’Connell to return to the starting lineup. Although Minshew returned in Week 8 following O’Connell’s injury, he played in four more games before suffering a clavicle injury that ended his season prematurely. The Raiders are 2-7 with the 28-year-old starting quarterback.
The Raiders are now down to O’Connell as the only quarterback on the roster after Minshew was released, while Desmond Ridder is set to hit free agency. ( bgames666 )
