betflikth99 The Buffalo Bills will not extend 25-year-old running back James Cook in the near future, the team’s GM confirmed.
Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Bean has spent the first two months of the offseason working on contract extensions with a number of players, but James Cook is still nowhere to be seen, despite the 25-year-old running back’s repeated demand for a new deal, NFL Network reports. betflikth99
“I love Jimbo and I’m proud of what he’s accomplished, as are the other players we’ve extended,” Beane said. “I’m not going to talk about negotiations. I’m going to say his agent and himself have said we’ve talked, so I’m not going to share anything new. It didn’t lead to a deal, so we went with a player that we agreed on.”
‘Right now, we’re in the draft, once we’ve got (Christian) Benford down, I don’t think we’re going to make any deals anytime soon,’
Cook has been vocal both on social media and in interviews about his desire to sign a new deal with the Bills as he enters the final year of his rookie contract, asking for as much as $15 million per year.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley currently has the league’s highest salary at $20.6 million per year, followed by San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey at $19 million. But no running back averages more than $14 million, and only six have deals worth $10 million or more.
“Again, even if we don’t sign James today, that doesn’t mean we can’t sign him next year before he hits free agency,” Bean said. ( betflikth99 )
