The Washington Redskins decided to release D.J. Swieringer on Monday after the veteran safety criticized the coaching staff for making mistakes that led to Saturday’s 16-25 loss to the Tennessee Titans, ESPN reported. berlin1688
Reds head coach Jay Gruden reportedly called Swearinger into his office on Monday morning and informed the 27-year-old safety that he was being released from the team.
“I have no regrets because I know I gave it 100 percent from the bottom of my heart,” Swieringer said after being let go by the Redskins on Monday after criticizing the coaching staff, particularly defensive coordinator Greg Manaskey, for his poor call on Titans backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert that cost the team its first loss.
‘I feel like we should be more aggressive. I feel like I’m on third down and need six yards, on third down and need seven yards. We’re playing with a backup quarterback. Why don’t you put us on one-on-one? We’re the best defensive team when we’re looking at the quarterback. When you put pressure on the backup quarterback, it’s easy. It turns things around every time.’
“I feel like if we look at quarterbacks with all the time right now, we can beat any team every week. But I’m not a defensive coach,” Swieringer said, insisting he doesn’t pretend to know more or watch more film than his coach. “The coaches think I’m smart or I have intelligence as my weapon.” ( berlin1688 )
