berlin1688 The NFL announced Wednesday that Fox Sports has won the bid to air Thursday night games for the next five years.

The deal will run from the 2018-2022 season, with 11 Thursday Night games per season (excluding Thanksgiving) and is worth an estimated $3 billion ($600 million/year).  berlin1688 

“We’re confident that we’ve bought the right sports content, and that’s the NFL,” Twentieth Century Fox chairman Peter Rice said at the official press conference, adding one more game per week to the already Sunday schedule. 

Thursday Night Football played its first game since the 2006 season, but it suffered a poor 12% rating and was criticized by players for having to play two games in five days (from the previous Sunday).

Moreover, data from the NFL also indicates that the chances of injury are higher on Thursday matches than on Sunday or Monday. 

In previous seasons, the league tried to broadcast matches live online via Twitter or Amazon Prime, but the response was not good.
