berlin1688 Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner was thrilled to be named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career, despite battling lymphoma three years ago.

The NFL announced the top players from all 32 franchises voted by fans to be named to the 2018 Pro Bowl teams to compete in All-Star Week ahead of next year’s Super Bowl.  berlin1688

One of the highlights was Connor, a second-year veteran from the ‘Iron Man’, who made the list for the first time, and his voting power also made him a starter in the AFC Conference game at Camping World Stadium in late January 2019. 

He did not want to keep his joy to himself, so he announced the news via Instagram. But what was cute was that he did not post a picture of himself, but took a screenshot of an encouraging message from Aaron Donald, a defensive tackle for the LA Rams, a senior in college, who sent it to him 3 years ago when he was still undergoing cancer treatment.

“How are you doing, little bro? Just heard from you. Let me tell you, I’ve been praying for you,” the University of Pittsburgh alumni began in the message. 

“Everyone has to go through tough times. Who knows, you might come back stronger or even better. I can’t wait for that moment.” 

“Let me tell you, I see you as the first player to make at least seven Pro Bowls and two or three All-Pro appearances. But all of that will happen when you get stronger.” 

“Hold your head up high, nothing can hurt us if we stay strong – even God knows,” was the message sent.

Connor kept it until he posted it when his dream came true: “Three years ago, my big brother Aaron Donald sent me this when I was undergoing cancer treatment.” 

“Today is a special occasion because everything he said started to come true. First Pro Bowl and more to come … Thank you for the inspiration brother … The hard work paid off.” 

Donald also made the Pro Bowl this year, his fifth career start in the NFC Conference.  ( berlin1688 )
