The Chicago Bears added depth to their defensive line by trading 26-year-old defensive tackle Chris Williams with a seventh-round pick in the same year, ESPN reports. ( pgzen )
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus previously expressed concerns about depth at defensive tackle following the injury to second-year defensive tackle Zach Pickens.
General manager Ryan Pouls then obliged the head coach by sending a sixth-round draft pick in 2025 to trade 27-year-old defensive end Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks, followed by trading Williams from Cleveland.
Williams spent the first two years of his professional career (2020-2022) with the Indianapolis Colts under Eberflus as defensive coordinator, where he played in 13 games and made six tackles before moving to the practice squads of the Kansas City Chiefs and Browns.
“I had a productive period when I was with him, too, and I feel like I’ve grown every year with him,” Williams said. “I know his game plan is to be aggressive, fast and use my skills. That’s what I feel comfortable with.”
Eberflus also said of the previous trade for Taylor from the Seahawks, “I think he has a different skill set than what we have in terms of his rush. What I like most about him is his movement.”
‘He’s got great movement, he’s got finishing, needs to improve a few things at the top of his rush, and we’ll work on that, but he’s still tracking and doing all the things that everybody in the building does that we expect and what we hold everybody accountable for.’
