Almost 60,000 fans have reportedly signed a petition calling on Bayern to keep De Ligt at the club for the 2024-25 season, with the Dutch centre-back arguing that he is a world-class defender, is likely to be the best option in the current squad and has a bright future ahead of him.
In the 2023-24 season, De Ligt is not a top choice for coach Thomas Tuchel, who trusts Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae more, as well as Eric Dier, who moved in during the second half of the season.
However, a change of coach to Vincent Kompany may not improve De Ligt’s situation, as Bayern have already signed Japan international Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart and are also targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah.
