New Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has revealed the team is working on a new deal with Osa Odikisuwa ahead of the 26-year-old defensive tackle hitting free agency, NFL Network reports. baconclub66

‘I think there are ongoing conversations,’ Schottenheimer said. ‘Obviously Osa has done a great job for us. He’s a great young player. He’s doing everything right and the communication is ongoing. It won’t be done until it’s done, but he’s someone we want to have back.’

According to a further report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the two sides are not close to reaching an agreement, but they are working to get it done.

Odikisuva is likely to be a top free agent when the market opens on March 12, along with Milton Williams of the Philadelphia Eagles. Given his position and ability, they are expected to receive a contract worth more than $20 million per season.

The Cowboys will be left with few options if they let Odikisuwa go to free agency, with only Macie Smith and a handful of other players left.

“When you look at it, you always want to look at your roster first, so who can we bring back? Who are the players that we feel are the pillars of what we’re trying to accomplish,” Schottenheimer said. “I believe in that.
