baconclub66 Cleveland Browns unlikely to re-sign Nick Chubb as running back options fill void
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Barry has revealed that free agent running back Nick Chubb’s return to the organization is unlikely, according to a report from NFL Network. baconclub66
“I wouldn’t rule anything out, but I would say it’s more and more likely not to happen,” Barry said. “We have a couple of young guys that we like. We think Jerome (Ford) will have a role. It’s just a matter of seeing how their roles change in the running back room.”
‘You can never cut someone as near and dear to our hearts as Nick, and I expect him to take another step after a year of recovering from his knee injury, but I think that coming back is less likely, at least in the short term, for us right now.’
The former second-round pick in the 2018 draft class is set to play professionally in Cleveland through the 2024 season before becoming a free agent this offseason, while the Browns selected two running backs in this year’s draft in Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins (second round) and Dylan Sampson (fourth round), along with veterans Ford and Pierre Strong Jr.
Chubb has returned from a serious knee injury, but the veteran running back has struggled, rushing for 102 carries for 332 yards and just three touchdowns in eight games in 2024, and he’ll be 30 in December, making him less likely to be re-signed by the Browns. ( baconclub66 )
