Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted his players will have to adapt to La Liga’s new rules to avoid receiving yellow cards for protesting referees as they have in the past, Marca reported on Wednesday.
Ancelotti has revealed he spoke to Luka Modric after the Croatian midfielder was booked in stoppage time during Tuesday’s 3-2 La Liga win over Alaves for protesting a refereeing decision – despite the player speaking in his capacity as captain.
‘We have to get used to the new rules and nothing more. We have to stop the protests and that’s it. Whether it’s fair or not, we have to adapt to the new rules. I told him that the yellow card he got for the protests was exaggerated to me. Nothing more.’
‘Now I have to do my part to avoid it and nothing more. No problem, we have to assess the yellow card issue from the protest and we will do it ourselves, but he gave the yellow card to the captain, Modric, who can speak,’ Ancelotti said. ( sunlit1688 )
