The Las Vegas Raiders are preparing to start 26-year-old quarterback Aidan O’Connell at the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. 123overr
The Raiders are without Gardner Minshew for the rest of the season after breaking his left collarbone in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos, with Desmond Ridder filling in late in the game. O’Connell, who suffered a fractured right thumb in Week 7, returned to practice Monday.
The Raiders are reportedly trying to get O’Connell ready for Friday’s Black Friday game against the Chiefs, even though the second-year quarterback had only started twice this season before the injury.
O’Connell, who started 10 times in his rookie season, went 5-5, completing 62.1 percent of his passes, throwing 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but the 26-year-old quarterback struggled against the Chiefs in Week 16 last season, completing just 9 of 21 passes for 62 yards. ( 123overr )
