    The former England manager was filmed joking that German manager Thomas Tuchel had been sent to “ruin us” after taking over as England manager

    last week. Redknapp was interviewed in London about the appointment of Tuchel as England manager and his suitability to replace Gareth Southgate.

    The decision to appoint the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager was met with mixed reactions given the German’s record in winning trophies at club level. However,

    Tuchel made an easy start to his tenure in charge last week, beating Albania 2-0 and then thrashing Latvia 3-0.

    Redknapp has admitted he is a big fan of Southgate and has doubts about Tuchel.

    Some reports have also claimed that Redknapp appeared to be acting “‘Nazi hand up'” But the video clip was inconclusive.

    “I like Gareth Southgate, I like him a lot, but we should have won something,” Redknapp began before joking with Tuchel.

    “I’ll be frank, I thought he was a German spy,” he said, causing the audience to laugh.

    “I tell you what, he was sent to destroy us, he did, I tell you what. He was like Lord Haw-Haw in the war – we’ve got your best men captured – and so on. “

    Destroy that team,” he continued, before saying “yes” in a German accent.

    Redknapp then left the stage claiming he wanted to “see my accountants” and indicated he had not been paid for his appearance.
