Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, 31, has confirmed he is ready to compete with rookie wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd under new head coach Brian Callahan, NFL Network reports. ( 123over )
“I’m always competitive,” Hopkins said. “Anytime we get a No. 1 wide receiver, my mindset is to go out there and compete and beat them. That’s always been my mindset.”
“Kobe Bryant is my all-time favorite athlete. Every time I have a chance to compete with someone, I try to beat them and try to be better than them. And that only makes the team better.”
Hopkins is entering his 12th season in the NFL, having been named to the Pro Bowl five times. He is coming off his seventh campaign with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
While Ridley signed a four-year, $92 million deal after reaching 1,000 receiving yards with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Boyd worked with Callahan for five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and reunited in Tennessee.
“I think this is one of the best wide receivers I’ve had the chance to play with on paper,” Hopkins said. “Of course I can come in here and say a lot, but we haven’t played a game yet, so we’ll see how it goes when we get there.”
The 31-year-old wide receiver also mentioned Titans quarterback Will Lewis, who finished his rookie season completing 58.4 percent of his passes for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
‘We have to be on the same page with Will. We know what he’s thinking, what he’s doing, and we can take his criticism, and he can take our criticism. It’s not just on the field. You have to build that relationship. It’s up to us to go out there and help him be the best quarterback he can be.’
